“Just about done,” drawled the mechanic, loosening the drive belt for proper tension. “Don’t see classics like this anymore. Where you headed?”

“I’m a pianist, doing a show tonight.”

“Whoa, keep your privates private,” said the mechanic, head turned, eyes squeezed shut.

Martijn felt his face flush. “That’s not— “

The mechanic chuckled. “I know.”

“What do I owe you, Charlie?”

“Since I enjoy the classics, what say I slip out of these coveralls, and join you at your show? Your treat. And Charlie is my dad. You can call me Charlene.”
